© Toni CumellaThe building is well integrated into the landscape. Thanks to construction techniques, special materials, camouflage and the typography, the building seems to belong to the site.
© Adrià GoulaThe project insists on integrating with the surroundings by subjecting the built to the topographic and climatic setting conditions and by using traditional materials along with constructive techniques. Some qualities of the environment have also been brought into the interior and vice versa.

Primary School & Sport Hall / Chartier-Dalix architects | ArchDoc

Courtesy of Chartier-Dalix architectsParis-based Chartier-Dalix architects shared with us their winning proposal for a competition to design a primary school and sport hall in Boulogne Billancourt, a commune in the western suburbs of Paris. More images and architect’s description after the break.
Courtesy of Chartier-Dalix architectsAt the heart of the large ongoing urban renovation of the area including the now well-known Ile Seguin, where Renault used to have their main factories, Chartier Dalix Architectes just won the competition for an innovative type of school. It will be mixed with a public gymnasium and both will be covered with a “living” shell, hosting a wide range of local fauna and flora, from bugs to owls through different species of trees and plants. The matter being to simulate a self-contained ecosystem, a landscape and a view for the surrounding buildings, a rich field of explorations and discoveries for children. In this complex context we opted for a plain architecture, connecting volumes and fonctions into a fluid shape. This artificial topography generates hollows and bumps, paths and sheltered areas, with no rupture or arrangement.The school is an extruded bit of territory, a both human promoted and self growing canopy landscape. Following this logic, class rooms softly curl up arround playgrounds and vegetated areas, increasing contacts and views.

© Arnaldo GenitriniVy Complex is the largest, most comprehensive and most progressive sport facility in the Middle East. Conceptually the spaces and their configuration build up on the notion of energy and well-being, enforced through several internal dynamics such as exchange of natural light and scenographic visual connections, many of which reveal kinetic movements.
structural conceptThe building includes the Main Gym halls, workout studios (5 group studios), semi Olympic pool, semi Olympics flying running track, climbing wall, squash courts, bath and changing rooms, spa, beauty center, Juice bar, Restaurant (250 seats), different retail shops and all support functions including administrative, laundry, maintenance, security and parking.
© Osman AkuzThe overriding sensory perception within Vy is that of invigoration. The halls at Vy were intially designed as social spaces that were then developed to accommodate sport events and not the other way around. The visual conversation within and between the halls took great consideration to ensure inspiring vantage points while visually panning during exercise.
conceptual modelExternally, the building expresses its typology and is unmistakably read as a gym complex. The upper level 200 meter steel structure running track roams through many of the halls overlooking many activities and continues outdoor flying over external spaces and views. Much of the internal activities and motion are also framed as clear visual perspectives inward towards the heart of the building on each façade, while kept bright through the utilization of large areas of skylights.#gallery-1 {margin: auto;}#gallery-1 .gallery-item {float: left;margin-top: 10px;text-align: center;width: 33%;}#gallery-1 img {border: 2px solid #cfcfcf;}#gallery-1 .gallery-caption {margin-left: 0;}
